Sleeping Stone grew from a love of shared curiosity.
My wife Hannah and I took up pottery while living in upstate New York. We quickly amassed a collection of oddly shaped pottery. We always have candles burning at home, so when our studio offered a candlemaking class, we signed up immediately. We loved it! Soon, we were pouring candles into our pottery at home.
A few months later, we decided to make a different blend for every member of our wedding party. We had a blast. That’s when I started developing my own scent blends and working with Hannah on the idea for a candle company. Hannah’s a poet, and she inspired me to look to poetry for the blends.
Sleeping Stone is now based in Philadelphia, where I pour every candle by hand. Each blend is inspired by a specific poem. The first collection centers on the natural world and the lives within it.
I worked with Nadia El-Mourli to develop Sleeping Stone’s visual identity. She designed every label and created all of the artwork.
